CONCEPT STATEMENT – Crazy for You

My design for Crazy for You is inspired by Bobby’s dream and his deep passion for theatre. Through the naïve and hopeful perspective of someone who falls in love with Polly, almost as a metaphor for his deeper love for theatre, Bobby invites us to believe in possibility.

The visual world begins in the glamour of New York City, filled with glowing marquees and classic Broadway theatre signs set within a darker, colder urban atmosphere. From there, the journey moves toward the warm, saturated desert landscape, a pink, dusty world where the ghost town of Deadrock becomes a magical and slightly exaggerated place.

Scenic transformations flow smoothly from one environment to another, working in dialogue with choreography and music to tell the story through movement. The set becomes a constantly shifting environment that reveals the mechanics of theatre, inviting the audience to experience the magic of transformation and the joy of performance.
